MIMO, Performance Measurement of OSTBC and Alamouti Space Time Block Codes

Recent advances in wireless communication systems have increased the throughput over wireless channels and networks. At the same time, the reliability of wireless communication has been increased. As a result, customers use wireless systems more often.

In wireless communication, error free transmission can be achieved by deploying multiple antennas whether at transmitter or receiver side.4th generation of wireless can be achieved by using MIMO in combination with OFDM. MIMO multiplexing (spatial multiplexing) and diversity (space time coding) having OFDM modulation scheme are the main areas of focus in our study. MIMO multiplexing increases a network capacity by splitting a high signal rate into multiple lower rate streams. MIMO allows higher throughput, diversity gain and interference reduction.

Data will be encoded using STBC. Advantage of using STBC is that no feedback is being required to get the channel information .Receiver complexity is also being reduced. Simplest of those is Alamouti STBC. After that, Comparison will be made among different space time block codes in order to find out the best one.

Paint Heat Lamp Power and Control System

The objective of the project is to expand the system to a multi-light capability that can cover a larger repaired area. The team will determine the need for and specify the requirements for a larger transformer (possibly of special design or specifications), single or multiple capacitors and igniters, and an appropriate means of controlling the combinations based potential customers’ facilities.

MP3-Based Digital Record and Playback Device

Similar in purpose to a recordable CD jukebox, the MP3-based digital record and playback device is a home stereo style device. This device is capable of real-time recording and compression of incoming audio, capable of encoding of CD audio from an incorporated CDROM drive, plays locally stored MP3 files. This device can locally store MP3 files from ISO-9660 CDROMs, and is accessible via a standard FTP network protocol. It is possible to create play lists from local files. Audio input and output connections are in the form of RCA analog audio and S/PDIF digital. This device makes use of DSPs, microcontrollers, hard disk access, CDROM control, development of a custom file system, digital signal sampling, a display controller, user input and output, network management, power fault tolerance, and digital and analog I/O.

A Secure Wireless Interface Between PDAs

The purpose of this project is to develop a wireless interface between two PalmPilot or HandSpring devices using two Motorola Talkabout radios. A third Talkabout-PDA would be used during testing, to try and intercept messages between the first two systems.

Communication Device for Handicapped Kids

The purpose of this project is to develop a communication or educational device to assist handicapped children. So the project will develop a single device suitable for use by children with various motor and other challenges. To determine a general set of design requirements, the team will contact various regional government agencies working with handicapped children. A prototype system will be developed and tested by a handicapped child, after the design is complete.

Immersive Video and Audio Streaming for Collaborative Virtual Environments

An integrated system is developed to support simultaneous connection of immersive environments among geographically located sites. The main component of this system is the ability of sending and receiving video and audio streams integrated in the three-dimensional rendering on the virtual scene.
This project will investigate the current state of video and audio streaming tools, which are mainly focused on web-based transmissions, design a modification/solution for integrating these tools in a three-dimensional scene, and develop a prototype to check  the feasibility of the solution designed.

Temperature Controller for Infrared Paint Curing

Through this project a controller is developed to maintain a constant temperature of a repaired automobile panel for a specified time during repainting. With the recently painted surface, no contact can be made, as it would damage the resultant finish. The heat is provided by a set of infrared lamps to dry the paint. In some case, there are two stages of heating to correctly cure some paints. For instance, a temperature range of 105-110 degrees Fahrenheit is needed for 4-6 minutes to ease the solvents before full heat is applied to finish the curing, which requires a temperature of 140-150 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes. The maximum surface area is 4 square feet to be dried at one time.

Computer Security

This purpose of this project is to create a web-based version of the current computer and network attack database. The project entails working with a web server using Linux, writing code in C, HTML, and PERL, downloading and compiling attack software and connect the same to the web database. It is foreseen that the finished software will have broad appeal to all researchers in computer security. Students who choose this project should enjoy designing software systems that present a single easy-to-use interface, but whose implementation is comprised of many different, large and even ill-defined pieces of software.

Personal Medical Assistant

Many people suffer such  medical conditions that they have to take multiple medications more than once a day for long duration of time. If they fail to take these medications on schedule causes significant health consequences. A survey of group of doctors, healthcare providers and patients have completed an ongoing previous project, to determine the desired requirements for a two-part system. A small hand-held device as a first part, which will remind people to take their medications. A set of software as a second part for a personal computer in a doctor's office. When the hand-held device is connected to the personal computer, a medical staff person will enter the medication schedule into the personal computer and download it into the hand-held device. This part of the project will develop an expanded version of the first system. The new system will allow a person to enter vital information, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood sugar level into the expanded hand-held device as requested by the doctor at specific times between appointments with the doctor. When prompted by the device, the person would enter the requested information. The recorded information would be retrieved and uploaded to the personal computer in the doctor's office for review by the doctor, during the next appointment with the doctor.

An Android based Monitoring and Alarm System for Patients with Chronic Obtrusive Disease

By making use of recent technologies remote monitoring of physiological parameters in patients is carried out because Consistent monitoring of vital health parameters is an important issue in the medical industry. This allows communication between a patient and medical personnel using a smart-phone, which will collect, analyze and transfer heart rate and oxygen saturation data for subsequent review by a medical professional.
It is necessary to clarify the nature of the correlation between these medical parameters, Before any on-line analysis is performed on the phone. In the current thesis we establish connection between a patient wearing a pulse-oxymeter and a smart-phone running Android and perform continuous data collection. All measurements were done in consultation with medical facility and involved real patients.
The data obtained is subsequently analyzed using change point detection and anomaly detection algorithms in off-line mode. Both techniques are complementary to each other and showed reliable results which could be useful for a medical review.
