The Development of a Hydrophilic/ Hydrophobic Interface



Polymer layer is fabricated to interface with hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials at the same time. This is done by making a coating that can be placed over a base layer, such as polypropylene, silicon rubber, or stainless steel; adhesion will be achieved with a collagen layer, which will in turn promote cell attachment and growth. A probable advantage of this technology is to control biological response to artificial materials used to fabricate implanted devices.

Modeling and Design of a Clavicle Bone-Plate for Zimmer



One of the most common injuries to the human skeleton are mid-clavicular fractures. This project aims to create a clavicle bone-plate for Zimmer’s Trauma Division. Designs were acceptable based on biomechanical modeling of stresses performed in both the MATLAB and Abaqus environments. The concluding plate design was exposed to balance clavicular stresses due to the biomechanical loading of daily activities, as well structural support for various fracture geometries in the clavicle.

emi-Automatic Translation of Medical Terms from English to Swedish: SNOMED CT in Translation



The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare has been supervisioning translations of the international clinical terminology SNOMED CT from English to Swedish. This study was carrying out to find whether semi-automatic methods of translation could generate an acceptable translation while needing fewer funds than manual translation. Using the medical English-Swedish dictionary TermColl translations of choosed subsets of SNOMED CT were shaped by ways of translation memory and statistical translation.
The resulting translations were estimated via BLEU score using translations offered by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare as reference before being contrasted with each other. The results demonstrated a strong advantage for statistical translation over use of a translation memory; however, overall translation results were far from satisfactory
